The U.S. Dry Bean Council Teams Up with They Draw & Cook for World Pulses Day

United States

More than 200 artists are participating in an illustration contest with $4,000 in prizes.

The U.S. Dry Bean Council is preparing for World Pulses Day 2020 in a most creative way.

It has partnered with They Draw & Cook to host an illustration contest with $4,000 in prizes. They Draw & Cook is a project spearheaded by Studio SSS to provide a space on the worldwide web for people to combine their love for drawing and cooking. Launched in 2010, its website has become the largest collection of illustrated recipes from around the world.

To date, the contest has inspired more than 200 people to submit bean-related illustrations, with some touting the health and nutritional benefits of beans, others sharing their favorite bean-based recipes, and yet others illustrating traditional dishes or just having fun with the idea.

The deadline for submissions is February 2. Contest winners in four categories will be announced February 6 and their illustrations will be displayed on a World Pulses Day website to be launched by the U.S. Dry Bean Council. A syndicated press release will promote the site, highlighting why people love to cook with and eat beans, and kickoff a global influencer campaign on social media, using the hashtag #TheBeanTeam. The U.S. Dry Bean Council’s World Pulses Day promotional activities will culminate with a story-of-beans video series.
